Emma Harris
Emma is the founder of Stay Active Physiotherapy and an experienced Chartered Physiotherapist with over 20 years of experience in both the private sector and the NHS. She qualified in 2004 from the University of East Anglia and immediately began working in the NHS, completing core rotations in an acute hospital setting. These rotations included respiratory, stroke rehabilitation, medicine for the elderly, intensive care, musculoskeletal (MSK), women’s health, and paediatrics. With a passion for MSK rehabilitation, she transitioned to the private sector where she specialised as a lower limb specialist. She further developed her skills in post-operative care for joint replacements, ACL injuries, and general lower limb rehabilitation, including biomechanical/gait assessments and the provision of shoe insoles (orthotics). Emma opened her private practice in Wymondham in 2013.
Since 2004, she has been involved with her local amateur rugby team, Wymondham in Norfolk. Growing up in Leicester, she became a keen rugby union fan and played locally at university and club level. Emma founded the ladies team at Wymondham in 2008 and have provided first aid provision pitch side and clinics for the teams since 2004. After having her two children, she retired from contact rugby and now play touch rugby. She is also a keen swimmer, having competitively swum until the age of 20. She enjoys both recreational and open water swimming. Additionally, she likes running, particularly when the weather isn’t too hot!
Emma has a broad range of clinical skills, including paediatrics, antenatal, and postnatal return to activity. She is a trained clinical Pilates instructor and incorporates her clinical Pilates experience and knowledge into her treatment plans for patients as needed. Her approach is holistic within a medical, evidence-based model, which she has developed through working as a first contact Physiotherapist (FCP) in local GP surgeries since 2020. She continues to use her FCP qualification at UEA medical practice alongside her private work, and is also a registered practitioner for Kids Back 2 Sport.
Emma works part time at the clinic in addition to working as an Advanced Practioner lead for Virtual Lucy/AXA.
In her spare time, she volunteers for the Cheetah Conservation Fund and a local RSPB reserve.
Emma has 3 other holistic therapists working at the clinic: Shantella Melton of SM injuries and massage therapy, Linda Green of Green therapies and Adrienne Cunningham of Tranquillity Zone whom is a trained reflexologist and well being practioner. Together they provide holistic healthcare for their clients.
